Your audio file (.m4a) is always saved only on your iPhone — there is no code path that uploads it, on any plan. During the Free 3-hour Premium AI intro (and on Pro), the live audio stream goes over an encrypted TLS connection to our speech-to-text engine for real-time transcription and is never stored by Lecsy. After the Free intro is used up, transcription runs entirely on-device (WhisperKit, English), so audio never leaves your iPhone. Transcript text syncs to our cloud only if you sign in. AI features send transcript text only (never audio) to OpenAI.
Do I need internet to record and transcribe?
Recording is always offline on every plan. The Premium AI transcription (Free 3-hour intro and Pro) streams audio to our speech-to-text engine in real time, so it needs Wi-Fi or cellular. After the Free intro is used up, transcription runs on-device (English) and works without internet.
What languages are supported?
Lecsy transcribes English lectures. Premium AI (used in the Free 3-hour intro and on Pro) delivers high-accuracy English, and the on-device fallback after the intro keeps transcribing English offline. AI summaries can be generated in your native language on any plan: record the lecture in English, read the summary in Japanese, Spanish, French, German, and more.
How accurate is the transcription?
During the Free 3-hour intro and on Pro, Lecsy uses high-accuracy cloud transcription for English — high accuracy for clear English lecture audio, even for non-native speakers, with stable handling of academic, medical, engineering, and legal terminology. After the Free intro is used up, the on-device fallback (WhisperKit tiny.en, English) handles everyday English well but is less reliable on specialised vocabulary and long lectures.
Is it legal to record lectures?
In most US and UK universities, recording lectures for personal study is permitted. Many schools actively encourage it as an accessibility tool. Always check your specific university's policy.
What iPhones are supported?
